As part of our commitment to supporting Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion activities of Minnesota performing arts organizations, this webinar series seeks to provide Minnesota practitioners with a range of perspectives and dialogue regarding how EDI practices play out in our community. We seek to support companies who have just started to make strides in this area, organizations that have been working to improve their practices for a long time, and everyone in between. These web conversations are available statewide, and recorded for future theater resource on our Performing Arts Human Resources Toolkit (PAHRTs) website.
“This work isn’t easy, but we need to collectively take the first step together to see industry-wide change. If you prove your commitment to diversity and equity through actionable measures, you will increase your network of performers and applicants, and you will cultivate a more diverse audience base.” Karena Fiorenza Ingersoll & Deena Selenow, HowlRound
This month, we will invite several actors, both union and non-union, to discuss how theaters can improve their EDI practices from a casting perspective. What are the pitfalls theaters run into? What are the best practices you have experienced, and wish all theaters adopted as part of their own processes? Are things improving? What can we do as a statewide community to support our practitioners? As Minnesota’s demographics become more diverse, how do theaters authentically and hospitably invite a full representation of our communities to be participants in theater activities?
