Firing Up Your Fundraising: Planned Giving for Your Organization

Join us for an overview of what planned giving is, who your best prospects may be, and how you can get organized and optimized to be a part of people’s legacies.
Planned giving is the process of making a significant charitable gift during a donor’s life or at death that is part of his or her financial or estate plan. Nonprofit performing arts organizations seeking to build their legacy and engage longtime and dedicated donors can benefit from taking first steps, or learning new ideas and best practices, around the topic of planned giving. Theaters at any level or budget size can benefit from learning these skills and strategies.

About the presenter:
Paul Odegaard joined the Minneapolis Foundation as a Philanthropic Advisor in May, 2018. Paul has more than 14 years of comprehensive communications and nonprofit fundraising experience. At the Foundation, Paul works closely with donor advisors, business leaders, and professional advisors to educate, connect, and inspire thoughtful, impactful philanthropy that supports our communities. Paul previously spent seven years with Minnesota Public Radio and American Public Media, partnering with enthusiastic donors to launch new content initiatives and ensure that the programs, stations, and broader public media network will be vibrant for the next generation of audiences as a major and planned giving officer. Paul also worked for his alma mater, Macalester College, as an Associate Director of the Annual Fund, overseeing volunteer management, young alumni and student engagement, and strategic communications. When he’s not strategizing with donors, you can find him chasing his children, playing trumpet professionally, cooking, or walking Greta, the family Boxer.
